Border Vineyard has launched 'Ridgeway', a new white wine that encapsulates the essence of the region, to celebrate English Wine Week 2024 – 15-23 June.
Located near Montgomery, the award-winning Kerry Vale Vineyard was established in 2010 and has been a beacon of agricultural excellence since its first harvest in 2013.
The latest addition to their portfolio is the result of a bumper 2022 harvest and a collaboration with the respected winemakers at Halfpenny Green Vineyard.
The 'Ridgeway' is named after the historic Kerry Ridgeway, a track taken by ancient cattle herders which meanders just south of the vineyard, offering panoramic views of Wales to the west and England to the east.
This new wine is made from the Phoenix and Solaris grape varieties, known for their resilience and suitability to English soil.
“Our Ridgway has been gently mulched to achieve the perfect balance of flavour,” said spokesperson Nadine Roach, a member of the Ferguson family that founded the vineyard.
“It features refreshing citrus and herbaceous notes, seamlessly intertwined with vanilla undertones and a whisper of smoke. The initial response from our soft launch at industry tastings has been very positive and we expect Ridgeway to appeal to a wide audience.
The Castle Hotel, Bishop's Castle, a long-standing supplier of Kerry Vale wines, will be among the first hotels to offer 'Ridgeway' to customers, underscoring the farm's commitment to local partnerships.
Russell Cook, owner of the farm, said: “This wine stands out from our other white wines, as it is carefully handcrafted to satisfy the palates of our growing customers. With a limited production run of just under 1,100 bottles, Ridgway will be available at £16 per bottle, reflecting Its exclusivity and dedication to providing affordable luxury.
“England’s temperate climate lends a freshness and lightness to our wines, setting them apart from international varieties. Our delicate grape clusters retain a light fruity flavour that often surpasses wines from warmer regions.”

During English Wine Week 2024, running from 15 to 23 June, Kerry Vale Vineyard is joining the national celebration of English viticulture, showcasing the best of local winemaking alongside a range of events, including vineyard tours, tastings and special offers.
To experience the full range of award-winning Kerry Valley wines, wine lovers can either purchase online, visit the vineyard shop and wine café or take part in a vineyard tour, which is on offer until the end of September.
