Chapel Down, England’s leading and most famous winemaker, has won a prestigious award at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, with its English Rosé sparkling wine being hailed as ‘Best in Show’.
This is the highest award given by Decanter magazine – in addition to the Silver, Gold and Platinum medals – with the “Best in Show” award reserved for what the judges consider to be the 50 best wines from around the world.

Chapel Down Rosé is a traditional English sparkling wine made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc and Early Pinot Noir. The inclusion of Early Pinot Noir provides a key point of distinction.
In addition to adding colour, this wine is promoted by Chapel Down as a bright pink wine, contributing to its almost light character. Chapel Down Rosé is refreshing and elegant, with flavours of red currant, citrus and wild strawberry.

Only ten English wines have been awarded 'Best in Show' since the Decanter Wine Awards began.
The Best of Show award for their Rosé wine is the third time Chapel Down has won this award, making the Kent winemaker the English wine producer with the most Best of Show awards for Decanter wines, having previously won for Kit's Coty Chardonnay still and Kit's Coty Coeur de Cuvée sparkling wine.
Josh Donaghy Spier, winemaker at Chapel Down Head, commented:
“Winning this prestigious award for our sparkling rosé is a fantastic recognition of the quality of our vineyard sites and the meticulous attention to detail that every member of our team puts into our wines. This wine and this award represent a milestone in our journey of exploring the soils of Kent and a great moment to reflect on how far we have come in creating a whole new wine region here.”
