EWGA Wines, a Lancashire-based importer and wholesaler, has achieved ISO 14001 certification, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability in the wine trade.
This accreditation recognizes companies with structured environmental management systems and makes EWGA one of the few companies in the UK wine sector to meet this standard.
“We are delighted to have achieved ISO 14001 certification, which highlights our commitment to sustainability and green practices,” said Adrian Moeckel, Managing Director of EWGA Wines. “This achievement not only sets us apart from competitors, but is also in line with our core values of reducing waste, conserving resources and protecting the environment.”
The company has made significant efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, including installing solar panels at its Lancashire headquarters in 2023. All sales staff now drive electric cars, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering emissions. EWGA Wines is also a signatory to the Harper's Sustainability Charter, underscoring its dedication to responsible business practices.
EWGA partners with wine producers who share similar sustainability goals, and works closely with growers who are focused on reducing their carbon footprints. Many of the company's main producers are certified by local environmental bodies, ensuring sustainable winemaking practices.
A large part of the ISO 14001 process involves working with Lancashire-based consultancy HSE Advice UK. Their support was key to achieving the certification. “Partnering with a local company like HSE Advice UK reinforces our commitment to supporting the regional economy,” Moekel added.
EWGA Wines was recently ranked No. 13 on Harpers' Top 50 Wholesale Drinks List, solidifying its position in the industry.
