Judgment
Thanks to the Maxi Space Tub, the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK built-in dishwasher has plenty of space inside, which is cleverly organised. Overall, it's a great dishwasher, but with excellent cleaning results. If you're on a tight budget, this is a great buy, but if you can scale up to the more expensive Hydroforce H8I HT59 LS UK, you'll get the same space but lower running costs. .
Positives
Plenty of space inside, powerful cleaning options, and a smart third shelf
cons
Not quite as good as its bigger brother
Place settingsThis compact dishwasher has space for 14 places, distributed over three racks.
introduction
Featuring Hotpoint's innovative Maxi Space Tub, the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK built-in dishwasher has 10% more usable space inside than other models.
It's a trick I've seen before on the slightly more expensive Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HT59 LS UK.
All the extra space is still impressive, but the cleaning power and running costs are better on the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HT59 LS UK, making it the better choice for most people.
Design and features
Plenty of space inside, smart cutlery organization, extra planes for targeted cleaning
Although the extra 10% space offered by Maxi Space doesn't sound like much, it makes a big difference to the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK, which has the same interior as the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HT59 LS UK.
With three shelves, the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK can place tall wine glasses on the middle shelf while leaving enough space for dishes below and cutlery above. If you've ever found yourself playing Tetris in the dishwasher, moving parts around to try to fit everything inside, then this dishwasher is for you.
Instead of the plain old cutlery rack on top, the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK features a more useful top surface. On the right side is a removable cutlery tray, which can hold larger utensils and knives along with regular cutlery; There is also a standard cutlery basket at the bottom.

The left side of the top rack is dedicated to cups and bowls, with dedicated spray arms targeting these items for cleaning.

Below is a standard middle shelf. The wine glass supports are on the right side only, which will likely limit the number of glasses you can wash to between four and six. There are also teeth that can hold small dishes or fold down for larger items.

Although the height of the top shelf is adjustable, I found that its lower position was perfect, and did not affect items below.

The bottom rack has a fairly standard design, with regular teeth for dishes at the front, and a set of foldable teeth at the back that can lay flat to hold dishes and casseroles.

This back section is where the 3D Wash Zone is located, which uses additional water jets to direct cleaning power where the dirtiest items go.

Although the usable space inside is only 10% larger than a regular built-in dishwasher, it feels much larger, this dishwasher is easier to load with larger items and consumes much more than regular built-in dishwashers.
Once filled with salt and rinse aid, the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK should be set to the local water hardness level; Easy task, follow the instructions.
Although internally similar to its bigger brother, the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK has a slightly different control panel. Instead of dedicated buttons for each cycle, programs should be identified by number, with the key printed on the upper side of the door.

Default wash cycles include Eco 50C, Auto Intensive 65C, Auto Mixed 55C, Auto Fast 50C, Rapid 45C, Delicates 45C, and Good Night 55C, which improves sound (frankly, standard wash cycles are so quiet that this mode doesn't work). no need).
There are also options to turn on the 3D wash zone and a sanitizing option, which runs a super hot rinse to sterilize items like baby bottles.
An LCD screen shows how long the wash cycle will last. Although it does not appear while the dishwasher is running, there is an LED light that illuminates on the floor to indicate that the dishwasher is running. At the end of the cycle, the motor pushes the door open to dry the dishes naturally.

performance
Consistent washing results, good running costs, quiet
I put the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK through my normal tests, loading the dishwasher full of dirty items: a coffee-stained mug, a red wine-stained glass, a cheese-topped plate, and a bowl used for microwave scrambled eggs.
I started with the standard Eco program, which is the cycle you should use to get the best running costs. I found that the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK costs 22p to run this cycle, which is 1p more than the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HT59 LS UK. That's still not bad, and despite the C energy rating, this dishwasher runs at a running cost of 1.6p per place setting (there's room for 14 places).
Results were good for standard items. I found that my coffee cup had returned to its original state.
Moving on to the wine glass, this came out spotless and the glass was nice and shiny.
I found that my macaroni and cheese plate was completely cleaned up, leaving my white plate in tip-top condition.
My egg tray was not performing well and had a large amount of dirt in it. I switched to running Auto Intensive, with the addition of 3D Wash. Which brought running costs to 66p (4p more than the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HT59 LS UK).
I didn't find the results to be good either, as the Hotpoint Hydroforce H8I HP42 L UK left a small amount of dried egg behind, which needed a quick hand wash to finish off.
Moving on to the quick wash (which takes between 30 and 40 minutes, depending on options), costs were 47p per cycle. This is quite high, so I would only use this mode if speed is of the essence.
In all cases, the door opening mechanism worked perfectly, drying my items naturally without any streaks.
