English and Welsh wine producers sold a record 8.8 million bottles in 2023, a 10% increase on the previous year.
Production is expanding at a rapid pace in an attempt to keep up with the growing demand, with 87 new vineyards registered over the past year.
This brings the total number of vineyards in the UK to 1,030, according to new figures from the Food Standards Agency's wine team.
“Surpassing the 1,000 vineyard mark is a real achievement for our industry and reinforces our position as the fastest growing agricultural sector in the UK,” said Nicola Bates, CEO of WineGB.
“We are growing our production sustainably, ensuring a 10% increase in sales, which is particularly impressive given the wider decline in wine consumption in the UK.”
