High quality Spanish wines, fresh produce and luxury products will be the focus of attention at an event designed to boost trade ties between the UK and Spain.
The annual Spanish Food Summit is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of September 9 at The Royal Overseas League in central London.
This year’s summit builds on last year’s initiative, which created the Spanish Food and Wine Advisory Boards. These boards, which include key figures in the wine, food and culinary sectors, met on June 25 and 26.
The summit will include three roundtable discussions with council members, moderated by Andrew Catchpole, editor of Harper’s; Mike Knowles, managing director of Market Intelligence and publisher of Fresh Produce Journal and Eurofruit; and Charlotte Smith Jarvis, digital editor of Specialty Food. The discussions will focus on strengthening ties between the UK and Spain and exploring market growth potential.
John Valentine of RED Communications will provide a summary of the boards’ findings and recommendations. John Giles of Promar International will report on the state of Spanish cheese and fresh produce in the UK.
Representatives from the Spanish Embassy’s economic, commercial and agricultural departments will discuss Spain’s performance in the UK market. The Spanish Minister of Agriculture will also attend and close the event.
Foods & Wine from Spain, the organization responsible for organizing the summit, aims to improve interaction with one of Spain’s main export markets. This year, the event will focus on fresh produce, premium products and storytelling of Spanish wines to provide insights and detailed recommendations.
“Last year’s inaugural summit was a great success, with lots of interesting ideas and results presented. This year we wanted to repeat the initiative but narrow down the broad topics of Spanish food and wine to more focused topics to gain a deeper understanding of these areas and how we can effectively promote and build relationships in the future. We are also excited to present a selection of fine Spanish products and Cava at the reception hosted by our sponsors,” said Fernando Muñoz, Director of Foods & Wine from Spain.
The Spanish Advisory Boards are a joint initiative between ICEX, the Spanish trade and investment body, and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The summit promises an afternoon of insights into Spanish food and wine, with plans for future promotion and partnerships, and concludes with a networking reception featuring Spanish food and wine.
