France and Italy were the top two countries of origin for wine imported into the UK in 2023. Imports from the top five countries of origin were worth almost £2.55 billion in 2022, of which £896 million came from France alone.
Wine trade
Wine imports into the UK came mostly from the European Union. Other countries in Western and Eastern Europe had only a small share of UK wine imports. Besides Australia and Oceania, another region provided imports of significant volume. With over 301 million wines, Latin America offered more wine than any country except France and Italy.
Wine consumption
Among those who drank alcohol, the majority did so weekly. Household purchases of table wine have been seeing a downward trend in favor of increasing purchases of champagne and sparkling wine. .
